The DCTC Bookstore does not offer year-round, in-store buyback.
Buyback is offered only at the end of fall and spring terms.
Online buyback, operated by Missouri Book Systems, is available year-round.

Please remember that THERE IS NEVER A GUARANTEE that we will buy your textbooks back!

Textbook buyback
As a service to our students, DCTC Bookstore offers students an opportunity to sell back their textbooks when they are done using them, at the end of fall and spring terms. Again, we do not guarantee buyback of textbooks.

      End-of-Semester Buyback
At the end of each semester, typically during Finals Week, store staff will conduct a textbook buyback. We will be purchasing textbooks on behalf of the DCTC Bookstore if we know that a title will be used again and more copies are needed. If not, they will be purchased for the wholesaler at the wholesale price. Sometimes, books have no value due to newer editions or other market criteria.

Where & When
The end-of-term buyback happens in the Bookstore, usually for a 7 to 10 day period.
Dates and times will be posted on this page as well as around campus once the dates and times are determined.

      How It Works
At buyback, students are required to bring a picture ID along with the textbooks that they wish to sell. The Bookstore employee will scan the bar code on the textbook and the system will display the price being offered for the materials. Prices offered are non-negotiable. Buyback transactions are in cash ONLY. An original receipt is not required for textbook buyback.

  • What can be sold back
DCTC students can bring back any textbooks back to sell, even from other colleges, to see if they have any value.  The books do not need to have been sold by DCTC Bookstore or even have been used on campus. Students may sell back textbooks, textbook bundles, certain loose-leaf textbooks, workbooks, trade books, novels, and even dictionaries and reference books.
Please note: We are not able to buy Instructor’s editions, software, encyclopedias, library books (unless they have been permanently withdrawn from the library’s system), and rental books from other companies. We will not accept any textbooks that are the property of another department, group, or business.

    Pricing
A textbook’s buyback value is dependent on a number of criteria. Each title is set with a single specific price. A title will either be listed in the database with a set price for purchasing, or it will not. Some titles will only be bought if they are in a specific condition (e.g. an access code that has not been scratched off or activated). We assume that students have used their books throughout the semester and will be sold in a "used" condition, so there is no good/better/best condition pricing scale. Buyback prices will not be given out over the phone or via e-mail, as pricing can change from one transaction to the next once the quantity needed is met.

    Condition Criteria
To assure that future students receive quality used textbooks, the DCTC Bookstore and our wholesale company follow certain minimum condition guidelines when buying back textbooks. The following is a list of examples why a textbook may not be bought back:
-Excessive highlighting/writing/underlining. It's expected that there will be some writing/highlighting.
    -Loose or missing pages.
-Excessive writing with answers filled in.
    -Torn or missing covers.
-Missing materials (CDs, inserts, access codes, etc.).
-Water or smoke damage of any kind.
